THE MAYPOLE HYDRATION SYSTEM

The concept is a hydration system that filters dirty water through a 15nm filter, small enough to let H20 through but not any viruses. The product is to supply: water, clean water, fun, happiness and a community. With this service it gets all of the people in the nearby location to work together, the one that live nearest to dirty water collects this and takes some distance towards the Maypole hydration system. At this point the person will be greeted by someone that has travelled from the system with clean water, they trade and go back to their villages.

The way this works is that as people are working together they can halve the current walking distance to a water source. When at the maypole hydration system once with the dirty water which was earlier traded, someone will simply pour the dirty water into the top of the system. As people have fun dancing around the centre the water inside is filtered and kept cool in the base. Obviously those that live nearest to the water source currently may think why I should travel up to 3km when the water source is on the door step, but these people are rewarded with clean water.

When the filter is at the end of its life the ropes will stiffen and eventually stop, this is to stop people from thinking that they are drinking clean water when it is not. Six to twelve train locals will be trained to maintain and fix the system when needed, also the clear viewing window is for easy visibility to the filter so any problems can be addressed easily. Also these are both part of the regulations set by WHO for EU standards.

As the service gives people roles and jobs they will need to work as a team for it to work, currently there is no trust and cannot be done, but when people become friends with each other they will learn to work with each other. This product not only lightens the burden of water collection for women, as they no longer have to walk to far, have help from others, and the water the drink is now clean. Women now have time to do other activities for example: which could include education, spending time with family and friends.

After reviewing this project sometime after I felt that the aesthetics did not directly suit the environment it would be used in. I have since changed the outer materials to concrete, this fits the systems surroundings and also could be manufactured more locally also at a lower cost.
